an icon there where the tornado actually touched down. right about 308 the sheriff and fire department in that area reporting this and the power lines down, small structures reported hit and they'll be out there this afternoon. meanwhile as we head over to the park you can see a line of rain moving through. we are expecting just brief showers but you can see right over san francisco a pretty big sell there and it's right over a t&t. -- showers should be brief. hopefully won't delay the game. minutesway from the start of game 7 in the nlcs. this is it. if the giants win tonight they go to the world series. if they lose their playoff run is over. live at at&t park, ken. >> hey guys. well, the rain started coming

down about 20 minutes ago and i'd say it's coming down at a good clip right now. it's not a sprinkle, a little more than that. not a heavy downpour. as for the weather we talk to giants fans and they didn't think the rain would be a concern for tonight's game at least they hope not. no doubt among them about the outcome of tonight's game of course given the giants ability to as the fans put it torture them by taking it to the limit. the confidence is so high, a couple of fans we talk to say they're already looking ahead to detroit and their plans for the world series. >> i have reservations. i'm a season ticket holder. i have reservations here for wednesday, thursday and also for game 6 and 7 if need be. >> we're going in on a good note. i think we are going to pull this off and we're going to see them in the world series.

can watch it live online at ktvu.com or mobile ktvu. >> in addition to the wet weather people had another problem to deal with. a power poole caught fire. look at this video here. you can see smoke coming from the cross bar. it happened early this morning near highway 12. it blocked out spotlights in the neighborhood and left some 4500 homes without power. most were restored in about one hour. the storm caused power outages all around the bay today. the height of the outage just before noon about 3800 customers lost electricity. now crews have restored power to all but 413 customers. the highest number is in the east bay where customers are still without electricity. >> storms also caused problems on freeways throughout the bay area. standing water on the roadway made for slick driving conditions including this stretch of northbound 880 in downtown oakland.

all the rain overwhelmed the drains near the 980 junction and it took crews awhile to clear the flooding. the heavy downpour which lead to a massive back under into san francisco. some drivers were following the car ahead too closely and when traffic slowed down, some of the cars slamed into each other robert is tracking the impact from the rain in santa collar raw video county and coming up at 6:15 he'll be live with the storm damage there. >> activists against police brutality are gathering in downtown oakland for a rally at this hour to call attention for what is increasing violence for those in uniform. >> these are boards they have set up here with the names of

people they say have died in connection with some sort of altercation with police. this is a rally to stop police brutality and also incarceration. you can see they have photos and names from people across the united states, not just in northern california and these board go all the way down around the corner and come over to where they have a podium set. you can see some familiar faces including the picture of oscar grant who died in an incident over on the station. now if you take a look over here, there's people who have been gathering that haven't started yet and they're planning to get started soon and then take a march from here over to the police head quarters and the jail. joining me now is larry who is a member of the network starting this. >> thanks for joining this. tell us about this group and

what your goal is for this. >> the network is also in new york city and other major cities of the country, los angeles, chicago and other places. basically there's been an epidemic of police murder and police brutality and racial profiling across the country. there's been a rise in the number of people in prison. there's 2.5 million in prison. we need to put a stop to this and build a movement that's going to put a stop to this. around this area recently, you can see there's been 7 -- [indiscernable] >> thank you, i understand you'll have some of those family members here today right. >> yes, he'll be here and chapman who is the mother of kenneth harding junior. >> thank you and we will be here and following them as they march through oakland and bring you any updates as we get them. in pittsburgh police are looking for a homicide suspect.

the body of a 20 year old man was found lying on the sidewalk near railroad avenue. police are not saying if he had been shot or stabbed. an autopsy is set for tomorrow. a motive or suspect is not yet known but investigators say they are following some leads in a case. a jury is now deliberating the fate. she is accused of murdering a nursing student last year. her body was found in a remote area. prosecutors say she thought she was having an affair with her x boyfriend. her attorney admits that he did kill him but she says he acted in the heat of passion. >> a teenager was sentenced to 7 years and 8 month in jail today for a crash that killed a father and his young daughter who were out riding their bikes but the driver will serve less than half of that sentence. anne was at the courthouse where emotions ran very high as the sentence was handed down. >> this say person who need ace

lot of help and the maximum sentence was the way to accomplish that. >> it was for a driver accused. but because he was tried as a juvenile he did only be locked up until he is 21. >> it's very important to understand that his sentence today far exceeded any sentence he would receive had he been tried as an adult. >> it might have been just home detention. this for a crime that claimed the life of solomon and his nine year old daughter. 12 year old hannah survived and though the defendant made guilty to vehicular manslaughter and wreck less driving attorneys say he did not apologize. >> that doesn't speak to liability. it speaks from the heart. so that could have been done. that was not done and that speaks volumes to this familiar. >> still they're more concerned

about rehabilitation than punishment. >> for him not to sleep at night feeling that people hate him or anything but to really understand what the program is all about and people do care about him and people want him to change his ways. >> he just turned 18 and we're not naming the defendant. he and his family declined to speak to the media. >> the defendant indicated previously he wanted to make a statement at the sentencing. ultimately he chose not to. relatives say they gather today to call for the california public utilities commission president. a group of victims, relatives and residents gathered 200 signatures in a petition drive to remove michael as the chief. they say they are upset over his decision to suspend public hearings into how much he will be fined for the blast.

we represent four of the victims that died. that's half of the victims. our children were ripped from us and nobody should experience that. >> 8 people were killed and more than 50 injured in the pipeline explosion. >> some nurses announced a strike for next week. the california nurses association is calling for the strike on thursday november 1st in response to the threat of staff and benefit reductions. union and management are currently in negotiations. they are all expected to be effected. it appears that the bankrupt solar company is still costing taxpayers money. a u.s. bankruptcy judge in delaware approved a plan for them that involved selling the tax breaks. those breaks total about $341 million. the federal government and the county object to the plan. the judge gave the justice department ten days to decide

active weather in the valley at this hour giving you a look there at some video taken in the past half hour or so. funnel clouds reported in some areas in the sacramento valley including there and we had a touchdown at about 3:08 this afternoon in the yuba city area. national weather service is still tracking a number of thunderstorms, interestingly enough we have a rainbow there as well. funnel clouds and rain and hail falling and again at 308 this afternoon, tornado did touchdown and actually create some damage to power lines as well as some buildings. we do have the national weather service out there trying to observe just how much damage and just how strong this tornado was but there's the information for you there. we've got scattered line of thunderstorms that continue to roar through there. here at home we're tracking a

report with it's new ceo appears to have been a hit with investors. the internet giant reported earnings and revenues. in her first earnings call he called it a solid third quarter. earnings rose 50% over one year ago. shares are up about 4%. >> it's not just baseball fans watching the first serious storm in the bay area. the wind and rain made life tough for homeowners and commuters and he's in san jose now and shows us why the weather is causing pleasure and pain. >> well, we are experiencing a nice little lull between storm activity, good for giants fans aand those that took the brunt of the wind and rain. take a look at this tree in this north san jose neighborhood. people hearsay it was looking strong and full before the storm, not doing so well now. the wind and rain tore this big branch down and that happened in a few places until the south bay and santa cruz mountains.

this is the way it looked this morning. and you can see the wind blue through. it had tree and removal crews on alert. but some people are happy to be preparing for the rainy season. >> it was a strong wind yeah. i thought for sure a few trees were going to fall. we get trees falling on houses and power lines and it's crazy. >> how about now? what does this rain do in terms of setting up the rest of the storm system. >> last night it soaked the ground good and loosens up the roots a little bit and if we get another big win it usually takes trees down. >> well, you have to get out your rain gear and make sure you put the outdoor furniture away, clean the gutters and all of that so you're prepared and i love the rain it cleans off the dust and makes everything green. you don't have to water anymore

so it's nice. >> it has been nice for most of this afternoon but people may have to speed up the clean up because clouds are rolling back in. >> and that same strong that brought rain to the bay area blanketed the area with snow. up to 18-inches are expected at higher elevations. if you're driving tonight pack your chains. we just checked and right now there are some chain restrictions in effect on interstate 80 and on highway 50. >> and the winter storm warning will last through tomorrow morning. it looks like right about 11:00 it will expire if you're going to be commuting in that direction. here at home we're see a lit bit of a lull in that rain. actually saw quite a nice afternoon in many cases with partly cloudy skies on the cool

side but partly cloudy and mainly dry for the afternoonful but we have unsettled weather in the forecast for the next couple of days giving you a look here, you can see we're tracking quite a bit of activity in the sack rosemont mento valley. here in the bay area, mainly dry, a few scattered showers expected to pass through, especially over the north bay. we were watching a cell move through over at&t park in the last 15 to 20 minutesor so. giving you a close up view here you can see it has now moved off to the east. i don't know if you can catch it right there but here in the city of san francisco as well as at&t park we're dry so we're looking good as the game is about to begin. we will be with a possibility of scattered showers for the evening hours. take a look at how much rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. wow, more than an inch. santa cruz mountains also reporting more than an inch. anywhere from a 10th to 710th reported. i'll show you when the next

line should move through. partly cloudy with mostly cloudy skies by 7:00, 8:00 we're still looking good but into the evening hours here comes the possibility of more rain. we see some over the east bay and have some over the north bay and this is going to continue to slide on through. it's now in the midnight hours. this is moving southeast and this line of showers here now south of the golden gate and south of i 80. 3:00, 4:00 its moving into the south bay. san jose, if you are up or if you are a light sleeper you may hear the rain falling on your roof top. tomorrow morning mostly cloudy skies, a few scattered showers in the forecast but nothing like what we had this morning. giving you a look at the overnight lows, similar to how we were this morning., 55 for oakland and for the afternoon tomorrow partly cloudy skies and cool, widespread low 60s around the area. 63 for us.

lance armstrong was stripped today of his wins in cycling's most prestigious waste. he was banned from cycling from life. this comes after a report accused armstrong and his teammates of using performance enhancing drugs. he said no would no longer fight the charges but still denies doping. >> giants will seal their fate and joe is live where they are

in the world series if they win. it must be great out there. >> it is. everybody's talking about the rain right now and there was relatively heavy rain about ten minutes ago but now clear skies and puff if you clouds. hopefully we can hold off three and a half hours or so. game 7s don't come that often. last night it looked like it might have been the cardinals who were shaky. in the first inning marco running on contact on a ground ball that david had trouble getting out of his glove and he came in to score to make it 1- 0. then in the 2nd, the giants executed a perfect bunt. it was brandon who came in on contact and pete couldn't handle the ball at shortstop so the giants putting the pressure on the cardinals early and getting off to a 2-0 lead. tonight it's going to be about who can embrace it and not be nervous about the situation. >> sometimes they say when you face adversity you find out
